Congratulations to the 2020 Houser Scholarship Recipient, Isabel Homsi!
Isabel, a dedicated scholar athlete, is graduating from Lincoln High School this spring. As a driven student and passionate athlete Isabel also has made the time to be a role model and influence in her community through various service activities and leadership roles.
Through athletics Isabel has learned the power of influence and action and how team dynamics can make or break an opportunity to succeed. Both in and out of sports Isabel demonstrates leadership, determination, and an abundant curiosity. As the President of the Arabic Honor Society at Lincoln High, an Outdoor School Student Leader, a food drive organizer, and as a strong advocate for climate justice, Isabel is no stranger to ambition, teamwork, staying busy, and relying on her support system.
In her pursuits of higher education, Isabel is planning on taking many of the lessons that she learned in athletics with her. This past fall Isabel decided to switch athletic ventures by changing out seven years of soccer for cross country. “In entering my first year of cross country this fall, I lacked knowledge about running 5k trail races, yet I brought leadership experience from competing on many basketball and soccer teams. Then this team made it to the national cross country meet,” said Isabel.
Isabel plans to double major in environmental science and global studies at the University of Vermont Honors College while also minoring in Arabic or Middle Eastern Studies to continue her seven years of Arabic language study. She also anticipates running for the Catamounts on their Cross Country and Track & Field teams. In light of the uncertainty that a pandemic brings, Isabel plans to defer her studies at UVM for one year. Isabel will use this gap year as an opportunity for self exploration and independent growth while digging into environmental studies and natural resources through a combination of paid and service work.
As a Houser Scholarship recipient Isabel is an energetic and confident example of achievement through athletics in the community. This scholarship is a way for brothers Greg and Peter Houser to give back and positively influence scholar athletes from their alma mater.
The Houser Scholarship provides a $10,000 award to an outstanding student athlete who is a senior at Lincoln High School. The scholarship is made possible by Greg and Peter Houser.
