Every year we award grants in our two cycles, once in the spring and once in the fall, these are the recipients of grants in 2019.
We are thrilled to be investing over $100,000 in the incredible, passionate and effective work in our community. These organizations inspire and enable kids to participate in athletics. On a daily basis, the individuals and volunteers at these nonprofit organizations provide access, inclusion, and opportunities for youth.
4 Worlds United Soccer Alliance works to enhance the lives of 4th world children by providing opportunities that improve soccer skills, build confidence, support their education, uniting communities and cultures. Our contribution provides support for the Summer Program Directors that coordinate the coaches, volunteers, kids and camps throughout the summer.
AC Portland delivers 30 weeks of after-school programming to under served, urban elementary and middle school students at 26 different sites throughout Portland. Our grant will help the expansion of this programming.
Adaptive Sports Northwest provides and promotes recreational, fitness, and competitive opportunities for people with physical disabilities. Our grant helps provide support for the youth adaptive swimming program.
The Aspire Project provides affordable programs in North Portland with a focus on serving under served youth, working class and diverse families. The aim to increase affordable access to physical activity and promote self-confidence through dance. Our 2019 grant helps provide support for athletic participation scholarships for the Fall Youth Dance Program.
Camp UKANDU provides camp experiences for kids with cancers and their siblings, utilizing volunteer healthcare professionals. Our grant helps provide support for the various camp programs including but not limited to rock climbing, swimming, horseback riding, archery, and ropes courses.
Elevate Oregon’s mission is to build relationships with urban youth at Parkrose High School to promote education, self-reliance and leadership. Our 2019 funding helps provide support for their community basketball camp and school supply giveaway.
Elite Sports Academy provides an 8-10 week, all day summer program held in North Portland. Multiple sports, athletic training and educational sessions that many underprivileged children would not otherwise have access to. Our contribution helps provide support for program costs such as sports equipment, scholarships, staffing, facilities, and other operational costs.
First Tee of Greater Portland’s mission is to provide at-risk and low-income children an environment to teach healthy life skills as well as engage in physical activity. The nine core values of First Tee include: honesty, integrity, perseverance, sportsmanship, courtesy, confidence, respect, responsibility, and judgement. Our grant will provide the expansion of the First Tee program to McKay Creek Golf Course in Washington County.
Friends of Baseball promotes equal access, positive coaching experiences and supporting strong ecosystems for baseball and softball for kids ages 4 – 18. They believe that every child should have the opportunity and tools to swing for the fences on the field and in life. The 2019 grant will provide expansion funding to double their community outreach.
Girls on the Run is a physical activity based positive youth development program that uses running and active games to enhance girls’ life skills. Our grant will helps support their Community Access Partner teams in under served schools.
Greater Than works to ensure that all children have the opportunity to pursue high education, fulfill their potential, and achieve their dreams through their Greater Than Initiative. Our grant supports a partnership with Playworks at Alder Elementary School in East Portland.
Living Yoga provides therapeutic yoga classes to youth involved in the juvenile justice system and mental health facilities. Through dedicated volunteers, they bring trauma-informed yoga classes to support healing and resilience. Our funding will help continue and expand the Spanish services for 2019 classes.
Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp hosts over 600 campers annually for children with developmental and physical disabilities ages 12 and up. Through equestrian therapy, adventure courses, and water activities, Camp Kiwanis helps youth build character and confidence. Our grant replaces and upgrades equestrian obstacle course equipment for varying skill levels which helps introduce campers to new obstacle course elements.
NW Disability Support promotes advocacy and education for an inclusive community primarily in the downs syndrome community. Our 2019 funding supports Bike First! – a special one week bike camp where riders will learn how to ride a two wheel bike and learn about perseverance.
Off the Sideline works with 13 social services agencies and nonprofits to identify low income middle school youth to provide participation scholarships for team sports. Our grant provides support for the average $300 fee to play team sports.
Oregon Youth Sailing Foundation introduces youth to the sport of sailing while providing access to the outdoors and building confidence and life skills. Our 2019 grant helps to expand their free Community Sailing Program for under served teens to an additional week in the summer.
Pacific University Handball provides opportunities through handball for student athletes regardless of financial capacity. Our grant is donor designated through the Emmerson Fund towards sport and fund expenses for athletes to participate in a regional tournament.
Parrott Creek Child & Family Services provides youth involved in the juvenile justice system with the tools, skills, and emotional support they need to address negative behavioral patterns and get back on the right path to success. Our grant will support the Athletic Enrichment Program, which includes soccer, baseball, basketball, and yoga for 60 boys ages 13-18.
Playworks NW provides services to 20 low income elementary schools in the tri-county area. Playworks creates a place for every kid on the playground to feel included, be physically active, and build skills to help them return to class ready to learn. Our grant will help increase access for youth to engage in their safe and inclusive athletic participation program.
Portland Tennis and Education offers tuition-free, year-round programming that includes tutoring, STEAM activities, and literacy support to a diverse group of students and their families in North Portland. They use tennis as a vehicle to teach life skills. Our grant will fund their Todos Tenis Program which engages the LatinX community in the sport of tennis.
Rose City Rollers Junior Roller Derby programs foster accepting team environments that enable skaters to express uniqueness and athleticism in an inclusive community. Our grant will support their scholarship program as they expand their reach and access to derby.
See You at the Summit uses wilderness therapy to help teenagers facing a cancer diagnosis reclaim their lives and personal sense of power. The focus is on adolescents 13-18 years old with cancer. Our funding provides program support for the summer summit of Broken Top in Central Oregon.
Street Soccer’s mission is to fight poverty and empower under served communities through soccer. They serve at-risk, homeless, and refugee youth by uniting and fostering them through athletics. Our funding will help recruit coaches, staff, and social service coordinators needed to properly run the Portland outreach.
Youth Movement uses after school programs and an annual field day to inspire and ignite a generation of Native American youth to be active, motivated, and connected to their communities. Our grant will foster the expansion of their programming and allow youth movement to begin to serve high school students for the first time since 2014.
